Welcome to Dannemora, New York. Our small village is located in central Clinton County which is also part of the northern Adirondack Park. Dannemora was incorporated as a village in 1901 growing up around the Clinton Correctional Facility, which happens to be the largest and third oldest prison in the state.
Dannemora is a great place to live in and to raise a family. With only a few thousand residents, our village provides a safe and friendly atmosphere and we welcome all to our neighborhood. The forests, mountains, and lakes surrounding our community provide great scenery and excellent recreational activities. We are also only a couple of hours away from Montreal and only a half hour away from Plattsburgh and Lake Champlain so come see what Dannemora and our region has to offer!
This section contains news and events which occur in our Village. If you have an event or news or photo's you would like on the website please email me and I will post it as soon as possible.
Permanent settlement in Dannemora had begun in 1838 with the first permanent settler, Thomas Hooker. The early economy was based on mining and smelting iron, but this industry did not become significant until about 1845 when Clinton Prison was opened to employ convicts to work in the iron industry. As a maximum security facility, it currently houses long-term prisoners and is the largest prison in the state. The Village of Dannemora was officially incorporated in 1901.

The Mayor insures that village policies are carried out by the various village departments. The village provides the following services: Department of Public Works, Water and Waste Water, Fire Protection, Code Enforcement, Constable, and Recreation. The Village of Dannemora Department of Public Works has many dedicated employees who are responsible for the success of projects and the safety of this community. The department provides many services to residents around the clock and throughout the year.
Cleanup Days
Village residents can take this opportunity to remove any tree limbs, grass clippings and leaves from their property. The Village Public Works Department will pick up these items and dispose of them without cost to the resident. All tree limbs and branches must be less than three inches in diameter and less than four feet long, stacked at the curbside. All grass clippings and leaves must be placed in clear plastic bags for removal. No trash, garbage, metal, glass or plastics will be accepted.
Street Cleaning & Snow Removal
Streets are swept and cleaned in the Village beginning in the spring and continuing throughout the summer. Snow and Ice removal efforts are performed as required.
Street Repair & Projects
Capital improvements to various roadways are performed by the Department of Public Works or outside contractors depending the scope of the project. General maintenance of roadways is a consistent and endless chore of activity and the Department routinely repairs streets and sidewalks.
Chief Operator
Elaine Thompson
The Village of Dannemora Department of Water and Wastewater is responsible for ensuring that village residents have access to clean water and for the diposal of wastewater at the treatment plant located on the Ryan Road. The Water Department also assists the Department of Public Works in the maintenance and cleaning of the water infrastructure throughout the village.
Constables
Kris Mullady
Robert Stiles
The Village Constable position was established to prevent and report crimes occuring within the Village of Dannemora and to enforce the evening curfew. The constable is a peace officer, not a police officer and therefore in an emergency situation the State Police or Sheriff's Department should be notified.

The Dannemora Volunteer Fire Department is comprised of many brave and willing volunteers. The Fire Department, also known as the Walter N. Thayer Hose Company, has been a part of the Dannemora community since 1884.
The Dannemora Fire Station is not staffed twenty-four hours a day but when they are needed the station siren will sound and volunteers will be dispatched. All staff are well trained and practice every Monday of the year to make sure their equipment is in working order.
The Village of Dannemora is located in a rural section of upstate New York. There are a number of small villages and hamlets in the immediate vicinity. Each of these communities has their own separate fire departments, but because of their size and limited populations the equipment is minimal. Largely due to the rural nature of this area the Dannemora Fire Department and Ambulance Squad is often called upon for mutual aid to assist with emergencies in these neighboring communities. Many of these same departments have also responded to our community with equipment and manpower during fires and other emergency situations.

The residents of the Village of Dannemora and Saranac Fire District can rest assured that they have the best medical response teams and advanced equipment available in Clinton County today.
We have paid EMT crews on everyday from 5 AM to 5 PM comprised of a basic EMT and an Advanced Life Support Critical Care EMT or Paramedic seven days a week. The paid crew is at the Dannemora Station April 1st through September 30th and at the Saranac Station October 1st through March 31st. During the evening to morning hours our local Volunteer Firefighter EMT's provide this same advanced level of care to the community.
We are always looking to the future as newer and better methods of patient care evolve. With state of the art telemetry, 12 lead EKG, cardiac monitoring, emergency medications, and trauma care.
We are always looking for new members to our Team. Contact the Village Office at 492-7000 for more information. Please call 911 if you have an emergency.
